Pure Delight by Mark Keathley
One of my favorite past
times is to ask "old" people about their
lives. I am always amazed at some of their
stories. The things recounted to me by these
heroes of the "good ole' days", are not
always the peaceful times of swimming holes
and fishing trips, but usually the tragedies
that came their way and how they coped with
these experiences. Another thing I have
noticed is that no one is unchanged from
these events. A person allows themselves to
be shaped by their experiences. They can
choose to either become hard and calloused
or soft and kind. In "Pure Delight" I
had the privilege of painting one of those
men who didn't have it easy growing up, but
he allowed the "stuff of life" to make him a
gentler man, able to enjoy the delight of
his grandson and everyone else around him. I
hope he inspires you to find the joy and
delight around you.

Hangin' Out by Abraham Hunter
Last fall, I was so blessed to have an amazingly close encounter with a mamma black bear and her little cub. They just sat there for what seemed forever, just hanging out, sleeping, eating, and posing perfectly for my camera. As soon as I got home, I painted this piece. I love the emotion that black bears have in their eyes. I tried to capture that in this painting. I was so excited as the painting just smoothly unfolded and the color and detail combined just how I wanted. Every time I see this painting, it reminds me of those beautiful bears that day in Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains. I'm so very happy with this painting and so excited to get to share it with you! I hope you enjoy it!

Beach House by Abraham Hunter
The beach is a place to let your cares and stress blow away with the ocean breezes. It’s a place to enjoy simple pleasures like the feeling of sand on bare feet, the sounds of birds calling, the crashing surf, and the sights of the ever changing colors in the sky as the sun arcs across the sky to the place below the horizon where it sets. When planning this painting, I closed my eyes and imagined everything I would love to experience in a perfect moment at my dream beach house. In the observation tower, there’s a telescope ready to observe the night sky. On the porch there’s lights and torches and comfy furniture to enjoy a evening outside and watch the sunset. There’s a heron fishing and a flock of pelicans returning from a day at sea. There’s a classic convertible in the driveway for when you want to take a special someone down a coastline drive with the wind in your hair. For times that you want to travel a little slower, there’s even a beach bicycle to pack a lunch in and go for a long ride. Most importantly, there’s fishing tackle conveniently on the walking bridge over the dunes! This would be my dream Beach House!
