Against the Wind by Abraham Hunter
To so many of us, horses symbolize freedom, majesty, power, grace, courage, fearlessness, obedience, and strength. Their faithfulness and loyalty have made humans trust their abilities and friendship for thousands of years. To capture this in a painting is a daunting task to say the least. In this painting, the wind and waves beat against them. These three majestic horses gallop “Against the Wind.” Not for once doubting their own strength, they leap and trod all over any obstacles that appear before them. Their freedom and power is gained by their complete lack of fear.

In the book of Job, the Bible says, “You give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane.  You make it leap like a locust, striking terror with its proud snorting.  It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength, and charges into the fray.  It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; it does not shy away from the sword.  The quiver rattles against its side, along with the flashing spear and lance.  In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.  At the blast of the trumpet it snorts, ‘Aha!’ It catches the scent of battle from afar, the shout of commanders and the battle cry.” I hope this painting inspires you with its message. Pursue what God has placed in your heart. Face challenges with no fear. Run with endurance the race set before you. Gallop with all of your might “Against The Wind.”

Mountain Village by Abraham Hunter

A lot of my recent work reflects on my growing fascination with details and composition. A composition helps lead your eye into a piece, but well-placed details seem to keep you there, and if done right they can even make you feel like you’re actually living in the painting. Hung on the wall, I want my art to be an extra window in your house that you can walk in and feel free and peaceful.

This painting depicts a small quaint village somewhere in the highlands, and it reminds me a lot of the countryside of the United Kingdom. I was striving for you to be welcomed into the piece by following the path around the bend, into the light, over the bridge, to the church and beyond to the majestic hills. But I didn’t want to force the viewers eye onto that path, so I placed a flower gardens to smell, docked boats to row, ducks to feed, a village to enter, a sunset to soak up, and a house to go inside in order to give you a sense of home and belonging while still giving you the option to walk out of town and explore the forests. That’s just one-way art can be a window to a better world only by hanging on your wall! Painting is a lot of fun!

Before the Flood by Abraham Hunter

A few years ago I painted all of the animals getting off Noah’s Ark and enjoying the dry land. I was and still am really proud of that first attempt, but it had a list of things that I wanted to capture better when I did another Noah’s Ark painting. In this prequel, I decided to have all the animals leaving their homes and obeying God’s command to go two by two into the Ark. With storm clouds beginning to obscure the sun, and the coming storm in the left of the painting, I attempted to capture the drama of those fleeting moments when all nature knew that it was time to get inside the safe place God designed before the massive flood and the destruction of life as they knew it. With one little stop at a small pond, they catch their reflections and take a drink. It will be the last time they will be on dry land for a long time. The next time they set foot back on the solid ground, the world would be different and they will begin to fill the earth again with life.

Moment of Silence by Mark Keathley Being from South Texas, I haven’t had a lot of experience with the white stuff.     We always traveled to Colorado to see some snow and were always amazed at the beauty it brings - covering over fallen logs and dead grass - you know, the mess of life.    I am reminded of what the prophet said, “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be whiter than snow” and I’m deeply thankful at the blanket of beauty that God wraps me in.  Better than that, even, He changes us from within to a new person - perfect and righteous enough to become his very temple.    Churches aren’t the place where God is hanging out -  YOU are.   Celebrate this with joy and thanksgiving - and maybe even a Moment of Silence.

Christmas Morning by Mark Keathley Celebrate the New Life - possible only through the Life of Jesus Christ every time you look at this glorious morning sunrise shining down on this beautiful rock Church.  Christmas Morning is a day to gather with our family and be reminded of the Love of God - who GAVE His Only Son so that we might have LIFE (union with Him) by the sacrifice this little baby, born on Christmas Day, would eventually do for you and me.  Celebrate this truth on this Christmas Morning!
